I've spent countless hours in front of this Mac sorting and editting 1000s and 1000s of photos over the years. Over the last 15+ years I've probably shot over 50,000+ photos and each one has been downloaded to a hard drive, catalogued, brought into Lightroom, viewed, rated, developed, and then exported back to a hard drive and left (i.e., my workflow). Over the years I've printed off some photos and put them up in my home, but I've always wanted to create my own website for my photos. I believe it was at least 8 years ago when I first thought to make a website. I remember I was on the tail-end of 6 months of travel around the world on safari somewhere in Kenya or Tanzania and I told one of my follow travellers to watch out for my website so they could check out all the pics from my trip. Well I'm happy to say it's almost ready!
I first started on this website in May 2016. That's when I decided to use Squarespace as a platform for my site. Originally I was all for coding a site from scratch, but my ambition got the best of me and I decided to at least start with a template. Much to my surprise, building a website using Squarespace has been great, the platform has still given me the the freedom to customize and be creative to ensure my site didn't look just look like some "template". This site has definitely been a long time in the making, and I used this past holiday break to make the final push to the end.
My goals for this website were to finally get my photos off a hard drive for myself and others to enjoy, to use Instagram (@ruwanjayphotography) to tell stories behind the photos I've taken, to use this blogging feature to keep track of my future travels and most importantly to add more photos of people and places around the world. Last time I check i've travelled to 34 countries (only!), so there definitely are a lot more places to see, people to meet and most importantly photos to take! Can't wait for my next adventure......
